Willow Floristry – Their story
The people behind Willow Floristry
Pip and Tony run the beautiful Willow Floristry florist shop in Verwood, Dorset. They first met in a club in Bournemouth in December 2000…on Pip’s birthday…purely by chance! They have been together ever since (insert collective “awwww” from reader audience).
Pip’s background is in art, being a fine artist creating beautiful wildlife images which are often mistaken for photographs. His various ventures include head gardener at Standish, a country estate in the Cotswolds, running a successful tattoo studio and then he moved into floristry. The rest, as they say, is history.
Tony’s background is in finance (fast forward to more interesting stuff) working as a branch manager for a high street bank, becoming a qualified accountant and then business manager. While Pip is to creative inspiration for Willow Floristry, Tony looks after the business side including his labour of love, the willow floristry website!
History of Willow Floristry
Willow Floristry started life as a ‘work from home’ florist focused on weddings and events. Our name very quickly became known locally for the quality of our product and our exceptional customer service. Demand grew to the point where we needed to find a suitable shop. But not just any shop, it had to be the right shop that would be in the heart of our local community. It took a couple of years for us to find the ideal premises and we proudly opened our shop doors in September 2016. Our modern and spacious shop ‘bucks the trend’ of typical florists and offers an open plan environment, which is not only welcoming but allows our customers to see how we craft their beautiful designs.
Willow Floristry in the community
The local community is very important to us and we’re always keen to support it. We employ staff from the local community and support community events, fundraise for local school events with gifts and prizes, as well as encourage work experience and placements.
We’re pretty keen on social media and run 3 local community pages via Facebook
1) Verwood Christmas Lights Competition. This is a fun and a free to enter competition, where residents of Verwood post pictures of the outside Christmas lights and the post with the most votes on Christmas Eve wins a festive floral design from us.
2) Ver-woof-ians. There is a local community group called Verwoodians for people in the town to share information and advice. Ver-woof-ians is a dog lovers group in for people in Verwood with the group name being a canine spin on the main group name!
3) Verwood in Bloom (to be launched this year). Working with the Verwood Town Council we were asked to judge the local competition in 2017. Inspired we offered to help promote the competition via Facebook following our page successes with the Christmas Lights and dog love pages!
We were also proud to support the Bournemouth Tourism Awards in 2016 at their launch party and grand final events…..the flowers were awesome by the way!
In 2018 we were nominated for The Best Retail Experience award across the BH postcodes (Bournemouth & Poole Tourism Awards) and out of 100’s of entries we were 1 of 5 finalists. Sadly we never came away with the trophy, but had a great night celebrating our success at the gala award ceremony which gave us a chance to dust off our dinner jackets!
What you like about Florist Up My Street
We love Florist Up My Street
, it brings a breath of fresh air and modern thinking to collaboration between florists. Connecting customers and florists through it’s wonderfully easy to use website. Florist Up My Street lets the customer interact with the florist and choose from a selection of their own work rather than the stock pictures.
We have also used the Florist Up My Street website to create our own e-commerce shop within our own website. This helps make our little shop in the heart of sleepy Dorset available to customers all over the world 24/7
